CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The No. 8 Coe College wrestling team knocked off Central 29-12 at Kohawk Arena on Thursday night. The victory moves Coe to 1-0 in dual matches this season while Central falls to 2-1. The Kohawks won six bouts on the evening, earning bonus points in five matches and capping the dual off with a first-period fall at heavyweight.
Amier Khamis kickstarted the dual with a shutout victory at 125 pounds, winning 16-0 to earn the bonus point just five minutes into the bout.
Brock Henderson made it two straight with bonus points, picking up a 21-4 victory five minutes, 17 seconds into the match to give Coe an early advantage. Central battled back, winning the following two matches but #5
Cole Erickson responded with an emphatic 21-4 tech. fall at 157 pounds to put Coe back in control.
Central picked up a win at 165 pounds but
Ryan Schott earned another bonus point for the Kohawks with an 18-3 victory at 174 pounds. The Dutch kept fighting, picking up a win at 184 pounds but Coe ended the match in style with two victories at 197 pounds and 285 pounds. #2
Taylor Mehmen hung tough in his match, winning 9-5 while
Kaleb Reeves put the finishing touch on the Dutch with a pin just one minute, 49 seconds into the opening period.
