Track and Field Opens the Indoor Season at the Dutch Holiday Classic

PELLA, Iowa - The Coe College track and field team opened the 2019-20 indoor season at the Dutch Holiday Classic on Saturday, which was hosted by Central College. No team scores were kept in Coe's opening meet but the Kohawks had a solid start to the year, highlighted by senior Carlyn Cole who won the women's 200-yard dash and the 300-yard dash. Coe also dominated the men's 1-mile run as Justin Phillips took the title with teammate Coe Booker just behind him in second place. 

Field Event Highlights
  • Freshman Gabe Varney took fourth in the men's long jump in his first collegiate event
  • Senior Josh Seymour placed second in the men's weight throw and third in the men's shot put
  • Senior Tieranny Keahna took third in the women's weight throw
  • Freshman Jaydyn Palmer placed third in the women's shot put in her college debut
Track Event Highlights
  • Junior Justin Phillips took home the title in the men's 1-mile run 
  • Sophomore Coe Booker finished just behind Phillips in men's 1-mile run
  • Senior Carlyn Cole took home two individual titles, in the women's 200 and the 300-yard dash
  • Senior Dana Koester finished second in the women's 600-yard dash
Up next: The Kohawks will return to action in the new year when Coe travels to New York City to participate in the Ramapo College Season Opener at the famed Armory Track.
