STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team won 86-80 over Buena Vista in double-overtime on Thursday night. The Kohawks trailed by four at the halftime break but fought back to force OT as Austin Roth hit a game-tying buzzer-beater in regulation. Coe and BV traded blows in the first overtime but the Kohawks pulled away in the second OT to secure the victory. The win moves the Kohawks to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the A-R-C while Buena Vista drops to 10-2 overall and 1-2 in the A-R-C. 
 
Austin Roth and Jacob Robertson led the Kohawks with 23 points each with both players pulling down seven rebounds for Coe. Adam McDermott joined the pair in the double-figures, scoring 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds. The Kohawks shot just 37.3 percent from the floor but converted 20-of-23 free throws while holding Buena Vista to just 13 free throw attempts in the game. 
 
The teams battled back-and-forth during regulation with neither taking full control of the game but the Kohawks trailed by two with just under 15 seconds left in the second half. On Coe's final possession of the frame, Austin Roth hit a runner inside the paint to tie the game as the clock expired, sending the contest into OT. The opening overtime period was similar to regulation, as both squads traded baskets, with neither pulling away before the clock ran out. 
 
Both teams seemed to run out of gas in the second overtime period as they combined for just two made baskets in the first three-plus minutes of the frame. Coe got a layup from Tommy Hook with 1:05 left in the double-overtime and tightened up its defense in order to secure the dramatic victory. 
 
Up next: The Kohawks continue American Rivers Conference play on Saturday, January 4 when they travel to Pella for a matchup with the Central College Dutch at 4:00 p.m.
