CARROLL, Wis. - The Coe College men's basketball team pushed its season-opening winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon with an 89-79 victory over non-conference opponent Concordia (Wis.) in Coe's final game at the Carroll University Classic.
Jarad Kruse, who was named the tournament MVP, led the Kohawks offensively with 24 points and four rebounds while
Ray Thrapp, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 15 points for Coe. The victory improves the Kohawks to 4-0 on the season while Concordia (Wis.) falls to 1-2 overall.

Game Facts
- The Falcons scored the opening basket of the game, converting a 3-pointer to take an early lead but the Kohawks scored the next seven points to take a slight 7-3 advantage with 17:50 left in the half. The teams then traded buckets for the next few minutes but another 3 from the Falcons gave them a 14-11 lead at the 13-minute mark.
- The back-and-forth action continued for the entire half and neither team led by more than six in the period. Concordia had the largest lead of the period at the 5:02 mark as it led by six but Coe ended the half with a 16-10 run which included a 3 from Zach Niemeyer with time expiring as the score was tied at 40.
- Coe took the lead early in the second half, scoring the first five points of the frame including a 3 from Cael Schmit as the Kohawks went ahead 45-40. The lead got pushed to seven for Coe as Kruse hit back-to-back 3s to make it 51-44 and was later increased to 10 after a 3 from Sam Auen as he made it 56-46 with 16:06 to play.
- Concordia battled back over the next few minutes of the contest, getting within six points after an 11-5 spurt but Coe got a layup from Brady Klahn and a 3 from Max Lampe to push the lead back to nine before the midway point of the half. The Falcons continued to claw back into the game, cutting Coe's lead to three points as the Kohawks led 75-72 with just 3:56 to play.
- The Kohawks buckled down and responded with three-straight buckets, including another 3 from Auen as the senior helped push the lead back to 10 with 2:21 left. Coe managed to see out the remainder of the game, converting from the free throw line down the stretch as it earned its fourth consecutive victory to begin the season.
Up next: Coe is back in action on Wednesday, November 17 when it hosts Monmouth College in its 2021-22 home opener at Kohawk Arena with tip-off scheduled for 7 PM.
