DECORAH, Iowa - The #6 Coe College wrestling team opened its 2022-23 season on Saturday at the Luther College Open which featured some of the top wrestlers from all three divisions from across the region. Coe had a solid day in its season-opening tournament, with numerous wrestlers earning podium positions at the event. In the elite divisions, Coe was led by
Riley Wright, who earned a second-place finish at 149 pounds, falling in the first-place match in sudden victory.
Will Esmoil and
Jared Voss also had solid performances in their season openers, finishing in third place at 165 and 197 pounds respectively. Esmoil suffered a semifinal defeat in sudden victory but fought back for a 7-3 decision in the third-place match while Voss dropped a semifinal to Kolby Franklin of Iowa before a pin in the third-place bout.
Chris Olah was Coe's top finisher in the silver division, taking home the 174-pound title with four wins including a 7-5 decision in the final over Preston Carlisle of UW-Eau Claire.

Up next: Coe returns to the mat on Thursday evening for its first dual of the season, hosting Central College at 7 PM at Kohawk Arena.
