RIPON, Wisc. - The Coe College men's basketball team suffered a non-conference loss on Saturday afternoon, falling 80-64 to Ripon College at Weiske Gymnasium. Ripon dominated the opening half, outscoring Coe by 20 points while shooting 58 percent from the floor. The Kohawks hung tough in the second period, edging the Red Hawks 37-33 over the final 20 minutes but the first-half deficit proved too large to overcome.
TJ Schnurr, Greg Hall and
Cael Schmitt continued to lead Coe's offense, scoring 15, 13 and 12 points respectively while
Max Lampe added seven points for the Kohawks. The loss, which is Coe's second of the season, drops it to 2-2 overall while Ripon remains undefeated and improves to 3-0 on the season.

- The hosts opened the scoring with a layup less than a minute in but Coe responded with five straight to take a 5-2 advantage. Ripon answered with a strong run, scoring 11 unanswered points to grab a 13-8 lead with 14:29 left in the first. The Kohawks got back within five on a three-point play from Schmitt but the hosts continued to dominate, pushing the lead to 17 points before the midway point of the half.
- Coe slowly chipped away at the lead over the next few minutes, pulling withing eight points after a jumper from John Steffen and a 3 from Hall. Ripon showed no panic despite Coe's run, responding with a 12-2 spurt to make it 40-18 with 2:58 left in the half. The squads traded buckets over the final few minutes of the period but back-to-back layups from Lampe cut the deficit to 20 at the break.
- The Kohawks quickly got the lead under 20 in the second half, getting a 6-2 run to pull within 16 points at the 18-minute mark. Coe continued to chip away, getting a 3 and a dunk from Schnurr on back-to-back possessions, getting the Kohawks within 13 points less than five minutes into the second. Ripon answered over the next few minutes, regaining a 21-point lead with a 10-2 outburst. Coe attempted one final comeback late in the second half, slicing the Red Hawk advantage to just 15 points with 5:02 remaining but Ripon saw out the remainder of the contest to pull out the victory.
Up next: The Kohawks are back on the hardwood on Tuesday evening, hosting Luther College in their first A-R-C contest of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Kohawk Arena.
