INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's basketball team dropped an American Rivers Conference contest to Simpson on Saturday afternoon, falling 74-63 at Cowles Fieldhouse. Coe and Simpson battled back and forth in the opening half, trading narrow leads throughout the period but the Kohawks held a 33-30 lead after 20 minutes. Simpson then dominated the second half, shooting 48 percent from the floor and 7-of-10 from distance to pick up the win. The Storm took advantage of some cold shooting from the Kohawks, who shot just 36 percent from the floor and 0-9 from distance. Three Kohawks eclipsed double-figures in the loss as
Cael Schmitt, Greg Hall and
TJ Schnurr scored 14, 11 and 10 points respectively. As a team, Coe shot just 3-of-19 from beyond the arc while Simpson converted on 8-of-19 3-point tries. The loss drops Coe to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the A-R-C while Simpson improves to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in the league.

- Coe had a strong start the opening period, scoring the first four points to jump ahead. Simpson answered, scoring six-straight points to grab a 6-4 lead with 16:52 left in the first. The Kohawks then put an end to the run with a free throw but the Storm continued to surge, stretching their lead to six with back-to-back buckets including the game's first 3. Coe settled in, ripping off a 6-0 run to regain a two-point advantage with just under 13 minutes remaining in the opening period.
- Coe put together another strong run over the course a six-minute stretch, outscoring Simpson 14-4 to grab a 12-point lead with 6:45 left in the half. The Storm answered despite facing their largest deficit of the game, ending the period on a 15-6 spurt to pull within three points at the break. TJ Schnurr gave Coe the three-point advantage at the half with a bucket in the latter stages of the period.
- The teams went back and forth to start the second but the Storm grabbed a four-point advantage thanks to a three-point play from Andrew Gibb. The lead continued to grow over the next few minutes, with the hosts outscoring Coe 11-4, taking an 11-point lead with 11:11 to play. Coe fought back and cut the lead to six before the seven-minute mark of the half, getting a pair of buckets from Schmitt and Max Lampe, who made it 57-51 with 7:21 to play.
- The squads traded blows for a short stretch until Coe continued its charge, slicing the deficit to three points with 2:41 to play. During the run, the Kohawks got contributions from Ryan Dolphin, Tyson Gage, Schnurr and Hall, who pulled Coe within one possession. Simpson remained calm and saw out the remainder of the game, handling the Kohawk pressure while converting some clutch free throws in the waning moments of the contest.
