SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The #21 Coe College wrestling team showed well on the opening day of the NCAA DIII Lower Midwest Regional, seeing six wrestlers go undefeated to advance into Saturday's semifinals. In addition, Will Esmoil, who remains alive in the consolation bracket, makes it seven wrestlers for Coe who have a chance at NCAA qualification on day two. Cade Hornback, Alex Friddle, LJ Richardson, Tristin Westphal, Jared Voss and Kaleb Reeves make up the list of undefeated wrestlers from day one who dominated their way to the semifinals. 
 
Richardson made an instant impact in his first regional appearance, earning back-to-back pins in the preliminary and opening round before grinding out a narrow 5-3 decision in the quarters. Reeves continued his dominant campaign, improving to 16-1 overall with a pair of pins in the first two bouts. He secured a fall 21 seconds into the second period in his opening match and followed with a first-period pin in 1:01 to advance to the semis. Westphal scored 10.5 points for the team score, picking up a pair of bonus-point wins to advance into the final four of the 184-pound bracket. The senior began with a dominant 16-0 tech fall in the first period and followed with a 10-1 major decision for his 19th win of the season. Voss began his regional appearance with a bonus-point victory, earning a pin just 1:17 into his opener. He was tested more in the second match, pulling out a 4-2 decision in order to improve to 2-0. Friddle also earned bonus points in one of his two wins, beginning with a 10-7 decision before following with a pin less than two minutes into his second match. Hornback, Coe's final undefeated wrestler from day one, battled for a 2-1 decision in his first contest and a 7-5 sudden victory in his second.

Up next: Coe's remaining participants will return to the mats tomorrow for the second day of the regional, looking to secure NCAA qualification.
