SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The #21 Coe College wrestling team completed competition at the NCAA DIII Lower Midwest Regional on Saturday, claiming fourth in the team standings as well as one regional title and four NCAA Championship births.
Kaleb Reeves made headlines for the Kohawks, winning his second-straight regional title at 285 pounds while earning the Gregorian Award which recognizes the wrestler with the most pins in the least amount of time. The Sigourney native earned pins in all four of his matches en route to the title, totaling a four-bout time of 6:22. His victory in the championship match was his quickest of the tournament, pining his opponent in just 12 seconds to secure the top podium spot.
Jared Voss, Tristin Westphal and
LJ Richardson rounded out the remaining NCAA qualifiers for Coe, securing bids at 197, 184 and 174 pounds.
Richardson continued his strong showing at his first regional championship, winning his opening match of the day to advance to title bout. The sophomore ultimately fell to Wartburg's Zane Mulder in the final, dropping a 7-2 decision to earn second place. Voss and Westphal both fought their way through the consolation bracket, picking up wins in the consolation semis and the third-place match to secure a spot in Roanoke. Voss claimed a win by fall over Colin Murphy of Loras in the consolation semis and booked his place in the NCAA tournament with a 5-1 decision over Austin Cooley from Schreiner. Westphal dominated his way through the consolation bracket, earning a pair of bonus point victories to earn his second-straight trip to nationals. Overall, Coe finished fourth in the team standings, earning 119 total points to finish behind Wartburg (181), North Central (157) and Loras (138).

Up next: The Kohawk national qualifiers will take the next week off and return to action on March 10 and March 11 at the NCAA DIII National Championships in Roanake, Virginia.
