ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College baseball team split a doubleheader with Marymount (Va.) on Sunday afternoon, picking up a 5-2 win in game one before falling 3-1 in the nightcap.
Tyce Johnson earned his first win of the season in Coe's opener, working five strong innings to lead the Kohawks past the Saints.
Daniel Hawes had a big game at the plate for Coe, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. The Kohawks took an early 1-0 lead in the first game and then put four on the board in the fourth to pad their advantage. Johnson and reliever
Jack Allison did the rest for their team, holding the Saints to just one run in the final three innings. Marymount started early in the second contest, jumping on top in the bottom of the first inning with one run. The Saints added two more runs in the bottom of the third, getting four hits to extend their lead to three. Coe threatened in the final inning of the game, loading the bases and pushing one run across but the rally came up short as the Saints hung on for the win. The Kohawks move to 3-3 with the results and Marymount improves to 7-4.

- Marymount threatened in the first with a pair of hits but Johnson shut the door with an inning-ending strikeout. The Kohawks also picked up two hits in the bottom of the first but were held scoreless with back-to-back outs to end the chance.
- Coe took the lead one inning later, capitalizing on a pair of free passes to begin the second. Hawes then delivered his first double of the day to give his team the lead, driving in Tyler Elliott from third. The Saints tied the score in the top of the fourth, using two hits to manufacture one run.
- The Kohawks quickly regained their lead in the bottom of the fourth, pushing four runs across on two hits and a pair of errors from the Saints. Joey Sartain reached with one down on an error and quickly moved to third on Hawes' second double of the day. Mitchell Eckardt then drove home the go-ahead run on a sacrifice bunt, while also reaching on an error from the pitcher. Tyce Johnson then made it 3-1 with a sacrifice fly, driving home Hawes and pushing Eckardt to third. Reid Rausch broke the game open in the next at-bat, delivering a two-run double to plate Jacob Brosius and Eckardt. Coe saw out the final three innings of the game, limiting the Saints to just one run on a pair of hits.

- Coe put a runner on base in the top of the first, getting a single from Brosius but he was stranded on second after back-to-back strikeouts. Marymount turned in one run in the bottom of the inning, recording two hits while also taking advantage of a Coe error. The Saints added to their lead in the bottom of the third, getting four more knocks and two runs.
- The Kohawks had one hit in both the top of the fourth and fifth innings but were unable to scratch anything across as the Saints' starting pitcher was in control. Coe's lone run of the game came in the top of the seventh inning, taking advantage of some wild pitching from the Saints. The Kohawks loaded the bases with two outs and scored the run on a free pass as Brosius earned the RBI. Coe had the potential game-tying run on second base with two outs but Marymount pulled out the victory, ending the game with a crucial strikeout to grab the split.
Up next: Coe takes the day off tomorrow and returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 14 for a doubleheader against Mitchell College at 3 PM CT.
