Baseball Drops Series-Opening Games at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team dropped the opening two games of a three-game series at Buena Vista on Friday evening, falling 12-2 in game one and 11-6 in game two. The Beavers used their offense to get past the Kohawks, combining for 23 runs and 31 hits in the doubleheader sweep. BVU scored runs in the opening four innings of game one and then scored two in three staight innings to cruise to the win in game two. With the losses, Coe drops to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in the A-R-C while Buena Vista improves to 23-5 and 14-1 in the league.

  • The hosts started right from the jump, getting a two-out homer in the top of the first. The Beavers added another in the second and then poured on five runs in the third to grab a comfortable lead. BVU added three more in the fourth, putting Coe in the rearview with a 10-0 lead after four. Coe fought back with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on RBI hits from James VanHooser and Mitchell Eckardt but BVU ended the game in the eighth, scoring two runs to earn a 12-2 decision.

  • Buena Vista continued its offensive attack early in game two, scoring three runs in the first to grab the momentum. Coe refused to go without a fight, scoring three in the top of the third on RBI from Tyler Elliott and Reid Rausch. The Beavers quickly responded, regaining their lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-out two-run homer. The hosts added two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, putting the game out of reach for the Kohawks. 
  • Coe continued to battle into the ninth despite the lopsided score, getting three runs on one hit and two errors to soften the blow. Elliott picked up another RBI to start the scoring before Jake Brosius singled home a pair of runs. 
 
Up next: Coe will complete the series with Buena Vista tomorrow with the third game of the set at 1 PM in Storm Lake.
