DUBUQUE, Iowa - The #23 Coe College men's basketball team picked up its 20th win of the season on a milestone-filled evening at the University of Dubuque, defeating the Spartans 56-50. Senior forward
TJ Schnurr became the 20th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-career point mark, doing it in style as the Algona, Iowa native scored 11 points in the second half to help lead his team to victory. The game featured back-and-forth action throughout, with each squad trading punches throughout the opening half but a late surge from Coe made the score level at the break. Again, the teams traded runs out of the half but Coe took control near the 13-minute mark. The Kohawks ended the contest on a 22-13 run in the final 13 minutes of the game, holding UD to just 4-of-22 from the floor. Schnurr finished the game as the team's leading scorer, posting 16 points, eight boards and two blocks while playing a team-high 35 minutes.
Bennett Sherry turned in another double-double, posting 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
John Steffen added a crucial 11 points from the bench and was Coe's final player in double-figures, going 5-of-8 from the floor while falling just one board short of a double-double.

- Coe and UD started slow in the heavyweight battle, combining for just 13 points in the first six-plus minutes of action. The Spartans pulled away midway through the period thanks to a scoreless streak from Coe, scoring 12 unanswered points to quickly take a 22-12 lead with 6:52 to play in the first half The Kohawks slowed the run and then later flipped the script, ending the half with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 26. Steffen helped the run, scoring the final five points with less than 1:30 left in the period. UD got the opening bucket of the second half but Coe gained the momentum, scoring eight straight to grab a 34-28 lead. The Spartans answered with another shutout run, posting a 9-0 run to regain a 37-34 lead with 13:05 left. The visitors took control for good over the next eight minutes, scoring 13 of the next 15 points. The Kohawks shot 6-of-15 during the stretch as Sherry scored seven points to lead the pack. UD was just 1-of-14 during the eight-minute stretch, missing all five of its 3-point attempts. The Spartans managed to close the gap to two points with 1:10 to play but Schnurr came up with a huge putback one possession later to restore a four-point lead. Coe secured the win in the final 35 seconds with some clutch free throws, hitting 5-of-6 down the stretch.
