Men's Basketball opens A-R-C tournament against Loras in semifinal matchup

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's basketball team will take on third-seed Loras College in its opening game of the American Rivers Conference tournament, hosting the Duhawks in a semifinal clash at Kohawk Arena tomorrow evening at 7 PM. Coe, which finished the year with a 13-2 record in the league and tied for the A-R-C title, picked up a pair of wins over Loras during the regular season. The first matchup in Cedar Rapids came down to a last-second defensive stand from the Kohawks, edging Loras 76-74 in the opening game of the league schedule. Coe later went on the road to Dubuque and swept the season series against Loras, securing an 84-73 win thanks to a dominant second half where the visitors outscored the hosts 44-32. Cael Schmitt was Coe's leading scorer in both wins, scoring 17 in the initial game before 21 in his home city of Dubuque. TJ Schnurr put together an impressive 18-point effort on the road in the double-digit win, pulling down eight boards as he helped Coe control the contest. Loras, which ranks as one of the nation's top offensive units, picked up an easy 86-62 win over Buena Vista in the quarterfinal at home. The Duhawks shot 58.2 percent as a team and got 24 points from Tyler Bass.
