ORLANDO, Fl. - The Coe College baseball team opened its 2024 Spring Break trip last Saturday, March 10 at the RussMat Invitational. The opening four games have featured matchups against Mitchell, Spalding (DH) and Salve Regina. The Kohawks are 1-3 in the matchups, picking up a 9-8 win against Spalding in the opening game of their doubleheader on Sunday. Coe's first loss of the trip came to Mitchell, surrendering two runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to allow a late Mariner comeback. The Kohawks responded well with 11 hits in the 9-8 win over Spalding, scoring all nine in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Creighton Kreshel had a team-high three RBI, producing a bases-loaded double to open the scoring in the third inning.
Jake Brosius and
Reid Rausch also finished with multi-RBI games, registering a pair each. The Kohawk bats and gloves struggled in the nightcap of the doubleheader, registering just five hits while recording five errors. Salve Regina pounded out 14 hits in this morning's 9-1 defeat, jumping on the board with four runs in the first and two in the second. Coe again mustered only three hits, with Brosius belting a solo homer, his fourth of the year.
MITCHELL 6 - COE 5

- Coe took the lead early in the first game, scoring once in the second on an RBI from Kevin Lamb before a two-run homer from Jake Brosius in the third. The Kohawks were unable to add to their lead and later saw the opponents take advantage, scoring two runs in the sixth, seventh and eight to grab a 6-4 lead late. The Kohawks managed to score once in the bottom of the ninth and put the tying run in scoring position but failed to capitalize as the game ended on a fly out.
COE 9 - SPALDING 8
Game Facts
- The Kohawks again got things started early, scoring four runs in the third inning as Creighton Kreshel and Jack Allison combined for the damage. Spalding got one in the bottom but Coe quickly extended its lead again with three in the top of the fourth. Mitchell Eckardt and Jake Brosius combined to put Coe up 7-1, recording two RBi singles in a three-hitter stretch. Reid Rausch put the game all but out of reach in the following inning, driving home two more with a single to right. Spalding fought back immediately in the following two innings, scoring three in the fifth and four in the sixth but Michael Bonner finished the job for the Kohawks, recording the final four outs of the game.
SPALDING 7 - COE 3

- The Kohawks grabbed a lead in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring once in the second with a bases loaded hit by pitch but failed to add any more. Spalding quickly flipped the score in the top of the third, scoring first on an RBI single before a wild pitch brought the second run home. The opponents struck with four runs in the fourth to grab a 6-1 lead, producing four hits as three different players registered RBI. Jon Wille hit his first collegiate home run later in the fifth to lead off but Coe only managed one more run before the end of the game, scoring once in the bottom of the seventh as Jake Brosius picked up an RBI single.
SALVE REGINA 9 - COE 1
Game Facts
- Salve Regina started from the opening frame, hammering out three hits and four runs in the first, including a two-run single with two outs. The Seahawks put three more on the board in the following two innings, scoring twice in the second and once in the third. Jake Brosius led the fourth off with a solo homer to cut the deficit to six but Salve Regina held Coe to just one hit in the remaining five innings to secure the victory.
Up Next: Coe concludes its Florida trip with four games in the next four days, taking on Ripon College tomorrow at 11:30 AM CT before a doubleheader on Friday against Dickinson at 8 AM CT. The trip concludes with one final contest against Wheaton (Mass.) on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 8:30 AM CT.
