CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's teams played its final match of the regular season on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-0 to nationally-ranked Grinnell College. The Pioneers had a strong start in doubles, cruising to an early 3-0 advantage with 8-3, 8-0 and 8-2 victories in the opening competition. The Kohawks battled in singles play despite the large deficit, showing well throughout.
Maddie Schultz and
Sophia Fain faced opponents ranked inside the individual rankings and each forced tiebreaking sets, pushing the Pioneers to the limit.
Amy Whitcomb, who was celebrated as Coe's lone senior, played her second singles match of the season at the number six position.
Up next: The Kohawks are back in action on Thursday, April 25 hosting the winner of Wartburg and Central in the A-R-C semifinals.
