CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team got back to winning ways on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the University of Wisconsin Platteville Pioneers 8-3 at Daniels Park. Coe jumped out in front in the first inning, scoring four runs on RBI from
Jon Wille, Jack Allison, Ryan Thoreson and
Gavin Guns. UW-Platteville quickly answered with three in the top of the inning but Coe added a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth to put the game away for good. The Kohawks outhit the Pioneers 11-10 on offense and got a solid effort from the pitching staff on the mound, allowing three unearned runs in the victory. Seven different Kohawks took the mound in the win as
Trevor Morse, Michael Bonner, Landon Moore, Jack McMann, Ethan O'Donnell, Xander Cloudy and
CJ Johnson made appearances.

- Coe got things started in the top of the first inning with three-straight singles from Mitchell Eckardt, Wille and Jake Brosius. Wille drove home the first run with his single and was later followed by Allison who made it 2-0 with a bases-loaded single to short. Thoreson made it 3-0 in the following at-bat with a sacrifice line-out to left before a single from Guns gave Coe a 4-0 lead. Platteville responded with three runs in the second, using two hits and two defensive miscues to pull within one. The game settled down until the sixth when Coe added insurance, getting two runs on two hits. Guns tripled with one out and was immediately plated by Kreshel to make it 5-3. The final run of the inning came with two outs on a wild pitch as pinch-runner Jordan Joselit scampered home on the play. The Kohawks all but ended the game in the bottom of the eighth, getting two more insurance runs for an 8-3 lead. Coe's first run came on a double steal of second and home with Thoreson swiping Coe's seventh run of the game.
