Chris Baker punches ticket to NCAA Outdoor Championships with school-record Hammer Toss heave

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Coe College men's track and field team had five representatives at last week's NCAA Regional Qualifying meet hosted by Augustana College. Kohawk junior Chris Baker made program history at the meet, earning the men's first NCAA Outdoor Championship bid since 2011, punching his ticket to the championships with a second-place finish in the Hammer Throw. The Cedar Rapids native recorded a massive toss of 58.80, finishing second in the open field behind an unattached athlete. Baker's throw broke his own school record with the throw and moved into 15th place nationally. Lewis Kleman also had a record-setting performance in the 1500m, breaking the record for the third time in his career with a time of 3:51.29. Joshua Peters, Jared Thoma and Gad Kanago also competed for the Kohawks, rounding out the regional action for Coe.
