CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College student-athletes
Kamen Rangelov and
Chris Baker were honored by the American Rivers Conference Monday in the league's weekly awards release. Rangelov, a freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, was selected as the league's Male Athlete of the Week while Baker, a senior from Cedar Rapids, was honored as the Male Field Athlete of the Week. Rangelov's incredible freshman season continued over the weekend at the Grinnell College Invite, posting four record-setting times throughout the competition. The Bolles School product began his weekend on Friday with meet-record marks in the 200 breast and 100 IM, winning both events. His time of 2:02.99 was also a school and conference record. On Saturday, Rangelov followed with his third individual victory in the 100 Breast while finishing fourth in the 50 free. His marks of 56.62 in the 100 breast and 21.32 were both school records. Baker joined Rangelov in the record-setting club, adding a second school-best mark to his collection. The Cedar Rapids native finished second in the weight throw at the Pat Heenan Invitational with a chuck of 18.31m. The throw is the longest in school history and makes Baker one of 12 athletes across DIII with a throw of 18m-plus. Baker also finished third in the shot put with an impressive personal-best throw of 15.36m, third on Coe's all-time list.
