CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team picked up its second straight victory Saturday afternoon at Kohawk Arena, defeating the Buena Vista University Beavers 64-60. Coe and Buena Vista were evenly matched throughout the matchup, trading punches across both halves. Coe had a pair of 8-2 runs during the opening half and led by as many six with just under four minutes remaining. Buena Vista fought back before the end of the period scoring 11 of the next 15 points to take a 28-27 lead into the half.
Bennett Sherry and
Deuce Walters took over in the second half for the Kohawks, combining for 12 points during an 18-9 run that gave Coe a 45-37 lead. The teams went back-and-forth for the remaining 10 minutes of play, trading spurts along the way. The hosts sealed the win with a late 11-5 run, using the spurt to ensure the victory down the stretch. Sherry continued his torrid stretch, recording his fourth double-double in five games with 24 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and four steals. Walters poured in a career-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor while adding two boards and two steals.
Cooper Nailor was the final Kohawk in double-figures, scoring 11 points with five rebounds and three steals.

- Buena Vista scored seven of the game's first nine points, taking the lead inside the opening five minutes of action. Walters and Coe controlled the next two-plus minutes, scoring eight of the next 10 points to pull ahead 10-9 at the 13:22 mark. Coe put together another 8-2 run later in the half, using the stretch to take a 23-17 lead with 3:42 left in the period. Sherry was the driving force behind the run, scoring six points including a run-capping old-fashioned 3-point play. Buena Vista slowly closed the gap before the end of the half, getting within one point with four straight free throws. Walters split a pair of freebies on the other end and gave the Beavers a chance before the half which the visitors took, converting a 3-point play as time expired to go up 28-27 at the half. Coe was hot out of the halftime break, going on a 10-3 run which featured four points from Sherry and Walters. Jackson Bowman put Coe up eight minutes later with a fancy finish at the cup, giving the hosts a 43-35 advantage with 12:31 to play. BVU charged back over the next 4:30, outscoring Coe 13-4 on the run to grab a 48-47 advantage. Walters then led another charge for Coe to regain the momentum, scoring six points during a 10-5 run that restored a 57-53 lead for the hosts. The final few minutes featured back-and-forth action but Coe hit the clutch shots when it mattered most, getting a crucial 3-pointer from Sherry to go up 62-55 with 2:16 to play. BVU drew within tow in the closing seconds but Coe hung on, surviving a 3-point attempt from the visitors before clinching free throws from Nailor.
