CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College student athletes Sophia Fain and Maddy Maahs were honored Monday by the American Rivers Conference, being named the league's Women's Tennis & Volleyball Offensive Performers of the Week. Fain, a junior from Waterloo, was a perfect 6-0 during the week, helping Coe to three A-R-C victories over Loras, Buena Vista and Nebraska Wesleyan. The Kohawks top player defeated her opponents 6-4, 6-3; 6-3, 6-3; 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 7-0 in conference matches. In doubles, Fain and partner Alice Tysoe went a perfect 3-0 with a pair of 6-1 victories at the top spot and a 6-2 win at number two, capping the unbeaten week. Maahs, a senior from Epworth, was dominant in Coe's 2-0 week as she totaled 89 assists with an 11.13 assist per set average. She stands 13th in DIII in total assists and 21st in assists per set and recently crossed the 4,000-assist mark for her career, becoming the third player in school history to reach the milestone.
