INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team suffered a road loss Wednesday evening at Simpson College, falling 83-78 to the hot-shooting Storm. The opening half was full of back-and-forth action with both teams trading runs. Simpson shot a staggering 70.8 percent in the opening half including 6-of-10 from deep to take a narrow 42-41 lead into the break. Coe fought back in the second half and led 68-63 after a big 13-2 run. The Storm settled down into the final few minutes and continuously found the clutch bucket, ending the game on a 17-10 run. In total, Simpson shot 58.8 percent from the floor and 56.5 percent from 3 while Coe hit just 44.6 percent of its shots.
Bennett Sherry had a team-high 23 points, adding five rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block.
Cole Hrubes was the other Kohawk to hit double-figures, posting 18 points as he was 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

- Coe and Simpson traded buckets to open the game, locked at nine just under three minutes in. The back-and-forth action continued until the midway point of the period when the hosts began to build a slight lead. The Storm scored five straight points to go up 25-20 with 9:08 left in the half but Coe fought back, scoring eight of the next 10 points to take a 28-27 advantage. The Kohawks surged later in the frame, ripping off a 9-0 which was capped off by a dunk from Sherry as Coe led 39-31 with 2:16 remaining in the first. Simpson closed the half on top, scoring eight straight points to pull ahead 42-39. Coe got the final bucket of the half from Sherry, pulling within one at 42-41 after 20 minutes. The opening ten minutes of the second half featured more back and forth action but Simpson continued to stay hot, hitting a 3 with 10:11 left to go up 61-55. Coe responded with a run of its own, ripping off a 13-2 run that featured back-to-back 3s from Brady Klahn and Cole Hrubes. The Storm settled down and regained control at the five-minute mark, scoring six unanswered points to lead 76-70 with 3:32 remaining. Coe pulled within two in the final seconds on a 3 from Hrubes but Simpson converted two clutch free throws with 17 seconds to seal the victory.
