WHEATON, Ill. - The Coe College women's tennis team battled but ultimately came up short at no. 70 Wheaton College Friday afternoon, suffering a 4-3 defeat to the Thunder. Coe fell behind after a strong doubles performance from the hosts as Wheaton claimed victories at number one and number two for a 1-0 advantage. Coe's lone doubles victory came at number three as
Maria Bello Escobar and
Jaden Fuqua combined for a 6-4 decision to salvage a win for the Kohawks. Coe went on to split the singles matches with Wheaton, getting victories at number two, three and four to keep the final score close.
Maddie Schultz was the first to claim a win for Coe, earning a 6-1, 6-0 decision at number three before
Addison Leasure won 6-4, 7-5 at number two. The final victory for the Kohawks came at number four from
Alice Tysoe as the freshman secured a 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 tiebreaking victory.
