CJ Johnson blasts three-run walk-off homer to lift Baseball past Loras in series opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College baseball team opened its final home series of 2025 with a dramatic ending, defeating Loras College 11-8 in walk-off fashion as CJ Johnson delivered a game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning. Johnson played the hero after Coe entered the ninth inning down one but an RBI single from Jack Allison set the stage for Johnson who blasted his first homer of the season to win the game. Early in the contest, sophomore starter Jack Walsh was dealing, allowing two unearned runs through six innings while striking out a career-high 10 hitters. The offense backed up Walsh with five runs before his exit in the sixth but Loras charged back late. The Duhawks scored twice in the sixth, four times in the seventh and twice in the ninth to take their first lead at 8-7 and put pressure on the Kohawks. Allison and Johnson completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth, following strong at-bats from Tyce Johnson and Ryan Thoreson that saw both hitters reach. Evan Bender, who entered for the final three outs of the top of the ninth, earned the victory for his second win of the year.
