CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The no. 8 Coe College Wrestling team ended its regular season in style Friday evening at Kohawk Arena, defeating the visiting University of Dubuque Spartans 32-7. The match began at 149 with UD claiming the opening bout by a narrow 9-5 decision.
Zachary Montez quickly responded for Coe at 157, edging out a 4-2 decision over 11th-ranked Kale Roth which included a clutch takedown midway through the contest.
Bo Koedam turned in a dominant performance in a ranked matchup at 165, taking down 13th-ranked Kale Roth 19-3 for the tech fall.
Anthony Montez made it three in a row for the Kohawks at 174, shutting out his opponent 3-0 with an impressive ride that netted a bonus point. Dubuque secured its final victory of the evening at 184 as Zane Pannell picked up a major decision to stop Coe's momentum.
Jean Ngoma restored Coe's dominance at 197, battering his opponent en route to a 19-0 tech fall that featured a sweet sweep of the leg takedown to cap the victory.
Wyatt Smith needed an extra period and a stall call to edge his opponent at 285, trying to force the action all match before being awarded the victory in the first extra period.
Brayden Parke, Carter Siebel and
Dresden Grimm finished off the match in style for the Kohawks, picking up three-straight bonus-point wins to finish off the Spartans. Grimm saved the best for last, taking control of his opponent in the first period before turning him for the pin.
