CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College men's basketball team defeated Loras College 78-74 Saturday afternoon at Kohawk Arena, handing the visiting Duhawks just their third A-R-C defeat of the season. Coe and Loras traded blows in the first half, exchanging small runs during a high-scoring half. The Duhawks managed to take a lead into the halftime break, using a 10-2 stretch midway through the period to establish a 40-36 advantage after one. Loras pushed the lead to eight in the second but half but the Kohawks refused to quit, ripping off a 25-12 run that featured 10 points each from
Jackson Bowman and
Zach Strauss. Strauss and Bowman helped put the game away in the final five minutes, answering the call with a pair of 3s and an alley-oop slam as Loras had one final chance to cut into Coe's lead. Bowman scored a game-high 22 points and registered his second double-double of the year with 12 boards. Strauss had 19 points, one better than his previous career-high while
Deuce Walters added 14 points and six assists to round out the double-digit scorers.
Cooper Nailor totaled eight points but stuffed the sheet with 10 assists and eight rebounds.

- Coe and Loras traded buckets in the opening three minutes with Nailor, Bryte and Bowman all finding the mark early on. The back-and-forth action remained over the next phase of play as Coe and Loras were locked at 20 at the midway mark. The Duhawks edged ahead in the next few minutes, outscoring the Kohawks 10-6 including eight unanswered points to lead 28-22. The remainder of the half was back-and-forth with neither team managing to separate themselves. The Kohawks trailed by six in the final minute but a pair of free throws from Walters brought Coe within four at 40-36. The Duhawks extended the advantage to start the second half, scoring 10 of the first 16 points to lead 50-42. C. Reece Breitenbach immediately answered with a 3 and set the tone for a Kohawk run. After another Duhawk bucket Bowman and Strauss took over, leading a 19-8 run that included a triple and big slam from Kanyon Bryte. Loras settled in but Coe didn't let up, as Strauss hit two more 3s before an alley-oop to Bowman brought Kohawk Arena to life. The Duhawks scored three-straight at the line but Coe put the game on ice in the final two minutes, getting a tough layin from Walters and a game-sealing 3 from Strauss.
