CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The second-seeded Coe College baseball team dropped an A-R-C tournament semifinal matchup to fourth-seeded Wartburg College on Friday afternoon, falling 10-7 to the Knights in a 13-inning thriller. The Kohawks started the scoring with a sacrifice fly from
Ryan Thoreson in the third inning, but Wartburg quickly responded with two in the fourth to grab the lead. Coe's offense struck back, scoring six times in the fourth as
Eli Elsbecker and
Isaiah Espey each hit homers during the explosion. Wartburg slowly clawed back into the game, scoring one in the fifth and sixth innings before tying the game in the final two frames. The Knights and Kohawks were scoreless in the first three innings of extras before Wartburg cashed in for three runs in the top of the 13th, taking advantage of back-to-back hit batters and a run-scoring walk to claim the victory. Coe's offense totaled 13 hits in the game, led by
Ryan Brosius, who had five hits while scoring two runs. Coe drops to the losers side of the bracket and will face the winner of No. 1 Luther and No. 3 Simpson tomorrow morning at 11 AM in an elimination game.

- Thoreson started the scoring in the third, plating Brosius with a one-out sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. The Knights quickly answered, getting a one-out homer in the fourth before three-straight singles gave Wartburg the lead. Elsbecker clapped right back to start the fourth, blasting a solo homer to left field to level it at two. Jake Mitchell tripled in the next at-bat and was joined on base by Brent Yonkovic, who walked to put runners on the corners. A double steal for the Kohawks broke the deadlock, making it 3-2 before Espey blasted a two-run shot to left for 5-2. Thoreson and Jon Wille punctuated the inning with back-to-back RBI, picking up a groundout and an RBI single to make it 7-2. Wartburg pulled a run back in the fifth and sixth innings, getting a one-out double and a two-out single to cut the deficit to three. A solo homer started the eighth for Wartburg, making it 7-5. The Knights got another in the frame, following up with a double, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to make it 7-6. Wartburg tied the game in the ninth as it was down to its final out, getting an RBI to right-center to level it at seven. The Knights failed to capitalize on a bases-loaded chance in the top of the 11th but cashed in during the 13th, sending eight men to the plate in a three-run frame that proved to be the difference.
