Coe’s 54th Athletic Hall of Fame Class Announced

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame committee announced its 2026 Hall of Fame class Thursday evening. 
 
The 54th Hall of Fame class includes Kevin Welu, class of 1986, Jamie Dalbey Schadt, class of 2002, Mike Killburg, class of 2007, and Kristy Upah Staker, class of 2008.
 
The four-person class will be inducted into the Coe College Athletics Hall of Fame during Homecoming weekend on Saturday, October 3. 
 
All Kohawk athletes who have earned a varsity letter and have completed their degree requirements at Coe, or have been an athletic coach and/or staff member at Coe College, are eligible for the Coe Athletics Hall of Fame. Potential candidates must be nominated in order to be considered for induction. 
 
2026 Hall of Fame Class (Graduating Year)
Kevin Welu, Track & Field (1986)
Kevin Welu, class of 1986, was a six-time individual conference champion and one of the best pole vaulters in Coe Track & Field history. Welu nearly broke the school record in his freshman season with a personal-best leap of 15'0 and, later in his career, set the school record in the indoor pole vault by clearing 14'10.5. His Kohawk career was highlighted by an individual All-American performance in 1985, placing sixth at the national meet. Welu still ranks second all-time in the indoor pole vault and third in the outdoor pole vault and helped the Kohawk men to three indoor Midwest Conference Championships and two outdoor Midwest Conference Championships. 
 
Jamie Dalbey Schadt, Basketball & Softball (2002)
Jamie Dalbey Schadt, class of 2002, was a major contributor for Coe Basketball and Softball in her time as a Kohawk, still appearing 47 times in the softball record book and 27 times in the basketball record book. A three-time all-conference performer on the diamond, Dalbey Schadt graduated as the career leader in hits, total bases and stolen bases while ranking in the top three for batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and home runs. On the hardwood, Jamie finished her Khoawk career as the leader in assists, steals, minutes and free throws, while ranking sixth in total scoring. Named the 2002 Barron Bremner Outstanding Female Athlete, Dalbey Schadt still ranks in the top-10 in assists, steals, free throws and minutes. 
 
Mike Kilburg, Basketball (2007)
Mike Kilburg, class of 2007, was a key figure in Coe's first conference title in 30 years as he was named the league MVP after his first year with the Kohawks. Kilburg led Coe to a 12-4 conference record in 2005-06, averaging 16.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game with the second-best single-season shooting percentage effort in school history. Kilburg was also named NABC All-Region after posting the ninth-most points in a single season with 431. He picked up another first-team Iowa Conference postseason selection following the 2006-07 season, where he totaled a personal best 441 points, the sixth most in a single season at the time of graduation. Kilburg owns four of the top-10 single-game shooting performances in school history and still appears in the record book 35 times, including ranking fourth in career field goal percentage and sixth in career scoring average. 
 
Kristy Upah Staker, Volleyball (2008)
Kristy Upah Staker, class of 2008, is one of five Kohawks to earn the conference Scholar Athlete of the Year award and led the Coe Volleyball team to its first NCAA Regional appearance in 2006. Upah Staker owns both major assist career records with 5090 total assists and 10.25 assists per set while earning a pair of first-team all-conference honors in her junior and senior seasons. Kristy totaled 1589 assists in 2007 and has the top eight single-game set performances in Kohawk history with a school record 79 in a match against Capital in 2006. Upah Staker appears in the Coe Volleyball record book 27 times and ranks fifth in total sets played, ninth in service aces and 11th in digs.
