A 2015 graduate of Christopher Newport University, Martin was a four-year student-athlete prior to beginning his coaching career. As a runner, Martin set a school record in the indoor mile with a time of 4:14.65 and broke into the top 10 list in the indoor 800, and the outdoor 1500. He is third in the indoor mile, fifth in the outdoor 1500 and ninth in the indoor 800. He earned four all-conference titles in the 800m 1500 (2x) and DMR while tallying 12 all-conference finishes. Prior to joining Coe, Martin served as an assistant coach at DeMatha and a volunteer cross country coach at Washington Christian Academy.
