Johnson, a graduate of Florida A&M, earned his degree in elementary education and is in his third year as an Assistant Professor in Education and African American Studies at Coe. Prior to graduation, Johnson was a standout thrower at Benedictine University. During the 2004 season, Johnson broke three records in the shot put indoor, discus and shot put outdoor. Both records in the shot put still stand today, almost 16 years later. He qualified for indoor nationals and finished 11th and later qualified for outdoor nationals but did not participate due to injury. Johnson went on to earn his masters and doctorate from the University of Georgia in Educational Psychology.
