Justin Roberts joined Coe's track and field staff in August of 2017. Before Coe, Roberts was a graduate assistant for three years at his alma mater, Hastings College. As a graduate assistant, he worked specifically with throwers, while also designing and developing mobility and injury prevention strategies, and implemented team strength workouts for sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and throwers. During those three years, Roberts coached 27 All-Americans, six GPAC Conference Champions and four NAIA National Champions. Roberts is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through CSCS.
While coaching at Hastings, Roberts received his Master of Arts in Physical Education. Prior achieving his masters, he also studied his undergrad at Hastings, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. As a student athlete, Roberts was an eight-time NAIA All-American in outdoor and indoor throwing events and a 13-time GPAC All-Conference Performer. He also holds the Hasting College school record for the indoor shot put.
Roberts is an Iowa native, growing up in Altoona and Alta, Iowa. His family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he attended Cheyenne Central High School. Now his family resides in Des Moines, where his younger brother plays football for Grad View University.
