CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College football team defeated Buena Vista 27-13 on Saturday afternoon at Clark Field. The Kohawks cashed in with a touchdown on their opening possession of the game and tacked on an additional score to hold a 14-7 lead after one half. BVU cut into the Coe lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass with 9:29 left in the game but the Kohawks controlled the tempo and sealed the game with a score with 1:43 left on the clock.

BVU ran nine plays on its opening drive but only picked up 24 yards prior to punting it back to Coe with 4:15 on the first quarter clock. The Kohawks took over for their second possession at their own three-yard line but they went three and out and punted the ball back to the Beavers. Buena Vista and Coe then went three-and-out on consecutive possessions prior to the end of the first quarter with the Kohawks leading 7-0 after 15 minutes.

Buena Vista retook control of the ball on its own 20-yard line after Evan Ellis' 62-yard punt flipped the field. The Beavers picked up a first down on second-and-14 as Dylan Laughlin found Jordan Travis beyond the sticks but the Coe defense forced a punt just four plays later. Coe took over on the BVU 39-yard line but a failed conversion on fourth down gave the ball back to the Beavers with 10:11 left in the first half.

BVU ran five plays on its next drive, gaining just 12 yards prior to punting it back to Coe but the Kohawks went three-and-out on the ensuing possession. On the following drive Buena Vista ran six plays but failed to convert a third-and-six and punted back to Coe who took over on its own 43-yard line with 4:08 left in the half. White opened the drive with a 37-yard completion to Mitch Stopko on first down. Following an offside penalty on second-down by the Beavers, Cody Russell scored on a 13-yard rush to put the Kohawks up 14-0 with 2:31 left in the second quarter.

BVU started on its own 25-yard line on the following possession but a 10-play drive that took just 2:19 off the clock ended with a touchdown pass to Jordan Travis as the Beavers cut the halftime deficit to 14-7.

Despite the good field position, BVU immediately turned the ball over as AJ Christensen came up with the second interception of the afternoon for Coe with 4:07 left in the quarter. The Kohawks managed to pick up one first down on the following drive but had to punt it back to the Beavers with just over one minute to play in the third.
