WAVERLY, Iowa. - The Coe College women's soccer team fell 2-1 on the road at [RV/RV] Wartburg on Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Kohawks to 7-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference. Despite trailing 1-0 after half, Coe fought back and tied the game in the 66th minute but a goal from Wartburg in the 72nd minute gave the Knights the win.
Wartburg came out strong in the first half, totaling four shots in the first 30 minutes of play but
Kacey Baker was up to the early challenge. The Knights finally got on the board in the 33rd minute of the match as Gabby Rohrer struck for her third goal of the season. Coe responded immediately, tallying three shots total and two on goal but none got past the Knight keeper. Wartburg applied pressure late in the half and had three corners in the final ten minutes of play but the Kohawk defense did enough to keep the score 1-0.
It was a slow start to the second half aside from each team earning a corner kick. Coe regained momentum in the 66th minute when
Mia Comparato connected with
Mya Washburn who scored her first goal of the season. The game began to open up after Coe's goal with the teams trading scoring chances in the 67th and 68th minute. The Knights regained the lead just four minutes later in the 72nd this time off the foot of Hailey Osburn. The Kohawks continued to pressure the Knights, including a shot on goal from
Sydney Schroder with 25 seconds on the clock but Marissa Lopez was up to the challenge.
