CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Dubuque in the opening round of the A-R-C tournament on Saturday. Coe ends the season 8-8-2, marking the fifth-straight season with at least a five-hundred record. The Kohawks and Spartans, who played each other in the final game of the regular season played a scoreless first half but a goal in the 73rd minute proved to be the winner for UD.
Coe and UD got a feel for the game in the first half and the Spartans narrowly held the advantage in shots, outshooting the Kohawks 4-2 in the first 45 minutes.
Sydney Schroder had a chance for Coe in the 26th minute but her shot missed wide while
Amanda Hiebert had a chance in the 41st minute that was saved by the Dubuque keeper.
The scoreless action continued early in the second half as neither team was able to produce any solid scoring chances. That changed in the 73rd minute when Dubuque's Isabelle Robinson scored off of an assist from Alexa Martin to put the Spartans up 1-0. Coe continued to press in the final 15-plus minutes of action but the Kohawks were unable to muster up any offensive attacks before the final whistle blew.
