MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team bounced back with a 91-48 victory over Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. The victory snaps a two-game losing streak and moves Coe to 6-4 overall while Iowa Wesleyan drops to 1-9 on the year. Madeline Wilkins led the team with 19 points, knocking down fives 3s while 12 other Kohawks recorded a point in the contest. The Kohawks opening evening on fire, outscoring Iowa Wesleyan 31-8 to take control from the jump. 
 
Coe sprinted out of the gates, ripping off 13 of the opening 15 points to take control early in the contest with over six minutes left in the first period. The hot start continued for the Kohawks, who scored 14 of the next 16 points, taking a 27-4 lead with 1:44 left in the opening frame. Iowa Wesleyan finally ended the Coe run just before the quarter ended but could not keep Coe off the board, as the Kohawks led 31-8 after 10 minutes.
 
Coe stretched the lead early in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 29 points with 4:09 remaining in the first half, leading 41-12. Despite its largest deficit of the game, Iowa Wesleyan fought back, scoring the final 10 points of the half to get within 20 points at the break.
 
The teams traded baskets early on in the third quarter but a 3 pointer from Morgan McCrea cut Coe's lead to just 16 points 5:33 remaining in the period. The Kohawks responded emphatically to the run, ripping off a 17-3 spurt to end the quarter, taking a 66-46 lead into the final quarter of play. 
 
Coe's dominance continued in the final quarter, as the Kohawks pushed the lead above 40 just over two minutes into the period. With a large lead and the game in hand head coach Kayla Waskow was able to turn to her bench to see out the victory. 
 
Up next: Coe will break for the holiday and return to action prior to the New Year for a matchup with Augustana on December 30 at 7 p.m.
