St. Paul, Minn – The Kohawk volleyball team opened up their season with a 3-1 victory over Bethel University on Friday night. They later fell 3-1 to St. Norbert to conclude the day.
The young Kohawks opened up their season Friday night with a four set win over Bethel. Coe jumped out to a two set lead winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-17. Bethel won the third set 23-25 before the Kohawks outlasted them in the fourth 29-27 for the win.
The Kohawk attack was led by a pair of freshmen as Katie Tidman collected 13 kills and
Madi Parson added 11. Junior
Morgan Kluesner chipped in with 8 kills and 5 aces while sophomore
Elli Teeple had 34 assists. On defense it was sophomore
Majda Suljic leading the Kohawk efforts with 23 digs. Parson added 16 and Teeple had 14 as both finish with double-doubles.
After winning their opening game the Kohawks got off to a slow start against St. Norbert dropping the first two sets, 17-25 and 20-25. The Kohawks battled back to win the third set 25-23 but the Green Knights held on in the fourth 25-27 to defeat the Kohawks.
Parson posted her second straight double-double with a team high 19 kills and 11 digs. Teeple also had her second double-double of the night with a team high 38 assists and 11 digs. Suljic led the defense with 15 digs while junior
Nicole Heins proved to be a force at the net with seven blocks.
Coe will return to action tomorrow as they remain in St. Paul to take on Concordia College at 12 p.m. They wrap up the weekend trip at 2 p.m. against the host University of Northwestern (MN).
