Rock Island, Ill. - The Kohawks went 0-2 at the Viking Classic on Friday, September 27th. Coe lost to host Augustana College 3-0 in their first game and fell to Saint Mary's University 3-1 in the nightcap.
Coe took on the Vikings of Augustana in their first game Friday night. The two teams went back and forth in the opening set before the Vikings used a late three point surge to edge the Kohawks 27-25. After falling in set one the Kohawks were unable to keep up with the Vikings in the second set as they fell 25-16. Coe would battle to the end as they again went back and forth with the Vikings in set three. Coe was unable to extend the game as Augustana closed things out in the third set 25-23.
Madi Parson recorded a double-double leading the Kohawks in both kills, 10, and digs,16.
Morgan Wills got her first start of the year and had nine kills.
Bryce Klein hit .455 in adding six kills.
Elli Teeple had 33 assists while
Majda Suljic recorded 13 digs.
In their second game of the day Coe fell 3-1 to Saint Mary's University. The teams split the first two sets with the Cardinals winning the first set 25-21 and the Kohawks taking set two 25-23. With things tied at one set apiece it was the Cardinals that seized control of the match with a 25-18 win in the third set. The Kohawks were unable to push things to a fifth set as the Cardinals took set four 25-22 to close out the game.
Kate Tidman recorded a double-double with a team high 14 kills and 15 digs. Teeple had a double-double with 29 assists and 19 digs. Parson added nine kills for the Kohawk offense.
Morgan Kluesner had a team high 26 digs to lead the defense while Suljic added 20. Coe had the defense at the net working with eight solo blocks and ten block assists. Tidman had four of the solo blocks and Kluesner added two.
The Kohawks will return to action next weekend as they head back to Illinois for three games on their two day road trip. Coe will take on Alma College on Friday, October 4th, at 7 p.m. before games with Ripon College, at 2 p.m., and Illinois College, at 4 p.m., on Saturday, October 5th.
