Baseball Drops Season Opener to (RV) Rhodes 1-0 on Walk-Off

MEMPHIS, Tn. - The Coe College baseball team fell 1-0 despite a stellar effort from senior pitcher Zach Kammin, who struck out 14 hitters in the game. Coe and Rhodes combined for just six hits in the game but the Lynx ended the game in the ninth inning with a solo home run. The Kohawks drop to 0-1 overall while Rhodes improves to 5-2.

Kammin led the effort for Coe, tossing 102 pitches over 6.0 innings of work, allowing just one hit while record the 14 K's. Rhodes starter Jacob Dubs was equally strong, going 5.0 innings, surrendering three hits but recording 11 strikeouts.

Coe threatened immediately in the top of the first inning, putting two runners on with just one out but Dubs pitched himself out of trouble and avoided it until the fifth inning. This time, the Kohawks loaded the bases with no out thanks to a walk and back-to-back hits from Isaac Evans and TJ Johnson but Coe was unable to cash in on the opportunity. Rhodes continued to struggle offensively for the remainder of the game but one hit changed everything in the ninth inning with one out as Will Heurtin hit a walk-off homer to win the game for the Lynx.

Up next: The Kohawks continue the Rhodes College Invite tomorrow with a matchup against Transylvania at 10:30 a.m. in Memphis.
