Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team lost 72-57 to top-seeded Wartburg in the semi-final of the American Rivers Conference Tournament on Thursday evening. The nationally-ranked Knights got off to a slow start in the opening quarter but they began to find their groove toward the end of the frame and rode the momentum to the victory. Coe ends the year with a record of 16-11 overall and 10-6 in the league while Wartburg improves to 23-3 overall.
Jamie Feldt led the way for the Kohawks, totaling 19 points, three blocks, two steals, one steal and one rebound.
Jackie Feldt also added 17 points, seven boards, two blocks, two assists and two steals in 38 minutes of action.
Madeline Wilkins also hit double-figures for Coe, posting 10 points, two rebounds and two steals while seeing 34 minutes of game-time.
Wartburg and Coe traded buckets to open the contest but the Knights held a four-point advantage after back-to-back 3s with 6:19 left in the opening frame.
Jamie Feldt cut the deficit to two with a layup for Coe but the Knights responded with 13-straight unanswered points to take control of the contest at 21-6. The Kohawks got the final bucket of the quarter thanks to a layup from
Jackie Feldt but the Knight lead was 13 after ten minutes of play.
Coe had a solid opening to the second quarter, opening with a 7-2 run to cut the Wartburg lead to eight with 7:13 left in the half but the Knights answered once again. This time, Wartburg ended the quarter with a 15-6 outburst, stretching its lead 17 at the halftime break.
The Knights scored the first two buckets of the second half but the Kohawks clapped back with 10 unanswered points to get back within reaching distance, trailing 42-31 with 5:43 left in the third. Wartburg continued to fend off the Coe pressure, putting together a 9-2 outburst over the next 1:22 to retake an 18-point lead. The Kohawks continued to fight for the remainder of the third and fourth quarter but the Knights showed off their poise and saw out the final minutes of the contest.
