Football Downed by #11 Central on Saturday Afternoon

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College football team dropped a conference game against #11 Central College on Saturday afternoon, falling 55-21 to the Dutch at Clark Field. The Dutch and Kohawks traded opening drive touchdowns within the first two minutes of play but the nation's leading offense posted 614 total yards en route to their sixth consecutive victory. The loss drops Coe to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the A-R-C while Central moves to 6-0 on the year and 4-0 in league play. 
 
Coe starting quarterback, Nick Casey, threw for 296 yards, one touchdown and two picks in his first start of the year. Dominic Shepardson led the receiving effort, catching six passes for 108-yards and one touchdown. Amel Saric chipped in with three catches and 70-yards while Ray Seidel led the rushing charge with 41 yards on nine totes.

GAME FACTS
  • The Dutch started the game with the ball and immediately drove the field for a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive which was capped off by a 33-yard touchdown pass from Blaine Hawkins to Erik Knaack. 
  • The Kohawks showed no fear on the ensuing possession, scoring on the second play of the drive as Casey hooked up with Shepardson for a 67-yard score as Casey threw a strike down the middle of the field to send Shepardson on his way. 
  • Again, the Central offense showed its prowess on the following drive, using 12 plays to march 75-yards as Hawkins found Jason Hoppe from three yards out to put the Dutch up 14-7. Central then forced the Kohawks to punt after one first down and capitalized again, scoring from 14-yards as Hawkins found Tanner Schminke to give Central a 21-7 advantage after one quarter. 
  • The Dutch started with the ball at the onset of the second quarter and marched the field again to make it 28-7. The offense kept rolling for Central in the second quarter as it posted two additional touchdowns before the break to take control of the game with a 41-7 lead. The Dutch scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter as Isaiah Walk and Hawkins found the endzone on the ground to push the advantage to 55-7. 
  • The Kohawks salvaged two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Ray Seidel scored a one-yard touchdown to cap off a six-play, 60-yard touchdown to make it 55-14. The final score of the game came from Chance Newton, who also punched it in from a yard out, finishing off a 15-play, 67-yard drive. 
Up next: The Kohawks will hit the road this week and head to Dubuque for an A-R-C matchup with Loras College on Saturday, October 16 at 1 PM.
