Women’s Basketball Fends Off Late Comeback Attempt in Victory over Illinois College

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon with a 65-55 victory over Illinois College at Kohawk Arena. The Kohawks led by double-digits midway through the second quarter but the Lady Blues fought back to get within seven points at the halftime break. Coe saw its lead quickly grow past double figures early in the second half but the visitors refused to go away, cutting the lead to just six points with 25 seconds to play but a few key free throws went down for Coe as it held on to snap the two-game skid.

Elle Wisner led the offense for the Kohawks, scoring 17 points as the freshman was 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Molly Buck also finished with double-figures, scoring 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting while knocking down three long-range jumpers in the effort. Alyse Southard and Katie Wilhelmi added nine points each for the Kohawks while Wilhelmi added eight boards to finish second on the team. Kaalyn Petersen recorded seven points in the game, finishing below her season average but she had a team-best 13 rebounds and also chipped in with three assists, one steal and one block.
