WAVERLY, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss in the American Rivers Conference championship match on Saturday evening to the top-seeded and fourth-ranked Wartburg College Knights. The Kohawks took an early 2-0 lead in the match with 25-23 and 31-29 victories over the hosts but Wartburg battled back to win three consecutive sets including the decisive fifth set which it dominated 15-8. The loss drops the Kohawks to 24-8 overall while Wartburg remains undefeated and improves to 27-0 on the season.
Four Kohawks had double-digit kill performances as freshman
Gracie Urbatsch led the way with 14 kills in the match as
Kate Tidman and
Grace Lueken added 13 each.
Madi Parson, who was second on the team with 36 digs, recorded a double-double with 12 kills overall.

Match Facts
- Coe got off to the perfect start, earning a 25-23 victory in the first set while hitting .222 in the frame. The Kohawks committed just three attacking errors to the Knights six and also added four key service aces en route to the opening set win.
- The teams battled back and forth in the second set with neither team taking a lead larger than two until Wartburg held a 22-19 lead late in the frame. Coe then scored six of the next eight points, including three in a row to tie the match at 25. The Kohawks edged the Knights with three straight points including a kill from Parson to secure the 2-0 advantage.
- The Kohawks built an 8-6 lead in the third set but the Knights managed to hang in the match before ripping off a 12-4 run which gave Wartburg a commanding 19-13 lead in the frame. Coe battled back to get within three points of Wartburg but the hosts hung on to make it 2-1.
- Wartburg continued to click in the fourth set, opening up a 13-8 lead as the Knights recorded back-to-back stretches of four-straight points. Coe fought back a few points later, scoring six in a row while getting three kills from Tidman to take an 18-17 lead. Wartburg responded immediately with a run of four points of its own, as the Kohawks committed two errors during the stretch. The Knights then scored four of the final nine points to hang on for a 25-23 victory, forcing a fifth set.
- The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the start of the final set but the Kohawks clawed back and got within one point of the lead at 8-7. The Knights took control of the frame with another big run, this time scoring five in a row to push their lead to 13-7 which proved to be a large enough advantage to secure the victory.
