ELMHURST, Ill. - The Coe College women's basketball team suffered a 76-73 loss to non-conference opponent Elmhurst University on Monday afternoon at R.A. Faganel Hall. The Kohawks led by 12 entering the final quarter but the Bluejays outscored the visitors 23-8 and hit a game-winning 3 pointer as time expired, securing the come-from-behind victory. The loss drops Coe to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the league while Elmhurst improves to 2-10 on the season and 0-4 in the CCIW.
Ellie Wisner led the offensive effort for Coe, scoring 22 points on 8-of-14 from the floor. The freshman was also 5-of-9 from downtown and added two assists in 28 minutes.
Kaalyn Petersen continued to stuff the stat sheet for the Kohawks, posting her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Petersen also added four blocks and two assists across 29 minutes of action.
Molly Buck was the final Kohawk to eclipse the double-figure mark, finishing with 13 points as the junior was 5-of-12 from the floor.

Game Facts
- The squads opened the game on fire, combining for 14 points in the opening two minutes. Buck gave Coe an early lead with a 3 at the eight-minute mark, making the score 8-6. The lead quickly grew for the Kohawks who got another 3 from Buck and a layup from Petersen to go ahead 13-8. Elmhurst clawed its way back over the next few minutes, cutting the deficit to two with just over 4:30 remaining in the first quarter. Coe pushed the lead back to five points on a 3 from Meagan Harvey but Elmhurst ended the quarter with a 6-2 spurt to make it 20-19 after one period.
- The Kohawks were dominant in the early portion of the second quarter, ripping off a 10-0 run before the mid-way mark of the quarter. The hosts continued to struggle offensively as Coe stretched its lead to 16 points after a pair of free throws from Petersen. The Bluejays finally came to life around the three-minute mark, hitting their first bucket of the quarter to make it 35-21. The teams then traded buckets for the final few moments of the period but a free throw from Elmhurst cut Coe's lead to 14 at the break.
- Coe remained on top for a large portion of the third quarter, extending its lead to 17 points after Alyse Southard converted a 3 to make it 53-36. The squads went back-and-forth over the next few minutes however Wisner restored the 18-point advantage with another 3 at the 3:57 mark of the third. The Bluejays slowly clawed their way back into the game, ending the third period with four-straight points to cut the deficit to 12 with 10 minutes to play.
- The hosts continued the comeback at the start of the final quarter, outscoring Coe 12-0 over the opening 3-plus minutes of action to quickly tie the game with 6:52 to play. Petersen got the Kohawks on the board on the following possession with a jumper until a pair of free throws from Elmhurst again tied the game at 67. Ella Imler then hit a clutch 3 for Coe to restore a 3-point lead with 5:31 remaining.
- After a minute of scoreless action, the Bluejays tied it up, hitting a 3 to make it 70-70 at the 4:29 mark of the period. The teams then went cold for the next three minutes until Wisner cashed in another 3, this time giving Coe a 73-70 lead with 1:13 to play. After a miss for both teams, the Bluejays converted an old-fashioned three-point play to tie the game at 73 and set Coe up with a chance at the final shot. The Kohawks had a chance on the offensive end but a shot from Buck just missed as the Bluejays grabbed the board with five seconds remaining. Out of a timeout, the hosts drew up an inbounds play and got an open look from 3 which Cate Boling knocked down, securing the victory for Elmhurst.
Up next: Coe is back in action following the Christmas holiday as the Kohawks head to Waverly for the Wartburg College Tournament where they will face UW-Stevens Point and UW-River Falls on December 29 and 30.
