CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's basketball team breezed by Finlandia University on Sunday afternoon inside Kohawk Arena. The Kohawks were hot to start the contest and continued to pad their lead for the remainder of the game. The result moves Coe to 3-3 overall while it remains 2-3 in the league as Finlandia drops to 0-3 overall.
Ray Thrapp had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for Coe. Three additional Kohawks also eclipsed the mark as
Cael Schmitt had 13,
Jacob Robertson had 12, and
Jake Eilers had 10.
Sam Auen tallied two blocks on the defensive side of the ball for the Kohawks. Each player that saw action today for Coe put points on the board in the victory.
The Kohawks got off to a fast start on Valentine's Day leading the Lions from the start. Early in the contest the Kohawks went on a 16-0 sprint to take complete control of the contest. The Kohawks had 12 different players record points in the first half as Schmitt and Thrapp guided the effort with nine and eight points respectively. Coe held a 29-point halftime lead at 53-24 after shooting 66.6 percent from floor and 50 percent from deep.
Coe kept their foot on the gas in the second half, going on three different runs to take the game by 50 points. Out of the gates in the second, the Kohawks went on a 28-3 run to push the game out of reach. The Kohawk bench got heavily involved, scoring 57 points on the afternoon as Eilers posted 10 points. As a team, the Kohawks scored 27 points on 18 Finlandia turnovers while shooting 62.7 percent from the floor and 45 percent from deep.
Up next: The Kohawks will return to action on Wednesday, February 24th when they host Luther College at Kohawk Arena.
