PELLA, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team fell to a 22nd minute goal in its American Rivers Conference opener at Central College on Saturday afternoon. The Dutch scored on their second shot on goal to take the early lead and then defended well to see out the victory. Coe had a late corner kick in the 87th minute but Central held its lines and secured the clean sheet. The Kohawks open the season 0-1 overall and the A-R-C while Central moves to 1-0 overall and in the league.
Sydney Schroder had three shots for the Kohawks as
Teresa Knudson and
Stephanie Naskrent tallied one. Knudson had Coe's lone shot on target while
Kacey Baker picked up three saves.
The Dutch had the opening three shots of the game including the opening goal but the Kohawks settled in to take the three next chances before half. Central opened the second half with four more shots in the first 22 minutes but Baker came up with one save in the sequence to keep Coe close. Coe's final shot of the game came in the 79th minute when Schroder hit the frame of the goal, being denied the equalizer.
Up next: Coe will remain on the road for its next game as it heads to Lincoln on Tuesday for an A-R-C matchup with Nebraska Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
