Coe recorded a season-high 15 hits in game 2.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College softball team picked up its third and fourth straight wins on Friday afternoon, defeating Buena Vista 9-1 in the opener and 12-4 in game two. The Kohawks racked up 25 hits in just 54 plate appearances, ending both games by the eight-run rule. Coe jumped out to an early lead in game one and never looked back as pinch-hitter Chloe Severson hit a two-run jack to secure the win. The Kohawks fell behind in the second inning of game two but exploded with five runs in the bottom of the frame to regain control. Coe went on to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including another pinch-hit homer, this time from Bree Mangelsen. The sweep moved the Kohawks to 10-5 on the season and 5-2 in A-R-C play while Buena Vista fell to 11-9 and 3-5 in the league.

GAME 1
COE 9 - BVU 1 (5 Innings)
Coe took an early lead in the opener, using three hits to score three runs in the frame. The big hit came from Stookey as she singled home Ball and Hora to put the Kohawks up 2-0. The final run came off the bat of Weber, who drove in Stookey with a single of her own. Coe added to its total in the third inning, pushing two more runs across thanks to RBI's from Ball and Parson. BVU finally got to game-one starter Ausenhus in the fourth inning, using one hit and a Kohawk error to score one run in the frame. Ausenhus buckled down and pitched a scoreless frame in the top of the fifth as the Kohawk offense ended the game in the bottom of the frame. Weber made it 7-1 with a two-RBI single, scoring Stookey and Parson. Coach Diane Meyer then turned to Severson as a pinch-hitter and she did not disappoint, hitting a two-run blast to clinch the victory by run-rule. Ausenhus, who earned her fifth win of the season, recorded four strikeouts while surrendering just two hits.

GAME 2
COE 12 - BVU 4 (6 Innings)
BVU started the scoring in game two, getting one run in the top of the second inning to take the early advantage. Coe responded in the bottom of the inning, exploding for five runs on five hits including a two-RBI single from Ball. BVU got two back in the fourth after a scoreless third, using three hits to cut the deficit to two. The Beavers cut further into the Kohawk lead in the fifth inning on a RBI-groundout which made the score 5-4 but Ausenhus, who came in to relieve starter Thurow worked her way around any further damage. Coe got some crucial insurance in the bottom of the frame, getting two runs in the inning as Blank stole home on a first and third situation while Parson followed with a RBI single. The Kohawks added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as Mangelsen hit her second pinch-hit home run of the season and Coe's second of the day. The offense continued to produce in the inning as pinch hitter Gabrielle Buckridge doubled home two runs, scoring Hansen and Kappeler. After a sacrifice fly from Ball, Parson would end the game with a run-scoring single to cap-off the sweep for Coe.

Up next: Coe is back on the field tomorrow afternoon to finish-off the series with a single game scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
