GRINNELL, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team fell 4-1 at Grinnell College on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers and Kohawks played a scoreless opening 20 minutes but three goals in under 15 minutes gave Grinnell a 3-0 lead at the break. Grinnell scored again in the 50th minute of the second half to take a commanding 4-0 advantage until a 73rd minute tally from Zachary Mooney ended the scoring. 
 
The Kohawks recorded the game's first shot on goal in the 13th minute as Noah Decker's attempt was saved by the Pioneer keeper. Grinnell then tallied four consecutive shots and two corner kicks in the next six-plus minutes of play before scoring the opening goal which came at the 21-minute mark. Just under five minutes later, Grinnell added another, this time from Jasper Yang who was assisted by Henry Cladouhos and Sam Naik. The Kohawks earned a corner kick shortly after the second goal but the Pioneers managed to deal with any trouble and keep the score 2-0. The final goal of the half came in the 36th minute from Naik, who added his first goal of the season. 
 
Grinnell struck again in the 50th minute of the second half, getting a goal from Cladouhos to put the contest out of reach for Coe. The Kohawks continued to fight for the remainder of the contest before earning a penalty kick in the 73rd minute. Mooney, who converted his lone penalty in 2020 (Spring '21), managed to find the back of the net to cut the deficit to three. Coe recorded an additional five shots in the final 15-plus minutes of action but it was unable to cut further into the Grinnell lead. 
 
Up next: The Kohawks will be back in action on Monday, September 6 when they travel to Mount Vernon for a matchup with Cornell College at 5:00 p.m.
