DULUTH, Mn. - The Coe College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over the University of Dallas in a neutral site match. The Kohawks took an early lead thanks to a
Jay Ndayisenga goal in the fourth minute of the match where he got on the end of a beautiful ball from
Brandon Larner and beat the keeper.
Noah Abideen quickly made it 2-0 in the 11th minute as Coe finished off a nice move that started in the defensive half. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Kohawks as they improve to 1-4 on the year while Dallas suffers its first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1 overall.
Match Facts:
- The Kohawks jumped out in front immediately as they dominated possession early. After a few passes into the midfield, Larner found himself in space and delivered the punishing ball through the Crusader defense to find Ndayisenga who placed it past the keeper.
- Coe continued to play on the front foot and found themselves with possession again in the midfield. This time, Diego Castellot played a cross-field pass to the feet of Orlow who drove a low cross in front of the goal which Abideen finished calmly to put the Kohawks up 2-0.
- The Kohawks handled the lead well for a significant portion of the first half but the Crusaders managed to find a goal in the 34th minute on their first shot of the game. Despite the lead being cut, Coe stayed strong and saw out the remainder of the first half to go to the break with a one goal lead.
- Maxwell Twight, the Coe keeper was quickly called into action in the second half, making a save in the 47th minute to keep the lead intact. He would face an additional two shot attempts on goal but the freshman keeper managed to keep both out. The Kohawks recorded four shots in the second half with none hitting the target but the defense proved strong enough to secure the squad's first victory of the season.
Up next: Coe returns to the pitch on Wednesday evening when it hosts Monmouth College at 7:30 p.m.
