Volleyball Sweeps Matches with Lake Forest and Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Coe College volleyball team swept a pair of matches at the Augustana Viking Classic on Saturday, knocking off Lake Forest College and Augustana College, 3-0. The Kohawks and Foresters went back and forth in all three sets as the Koahwks earned a 25-19, 25-21, and 25-22 to complete the sweep. Coe then dominated the match against Augustana, winning 25-14, 25-21, and 25-18 to earn its second sweep of the day. With the victories, Coe improves to 8-4 overall while Lake Forest and Augustana fall to 4-7 and 4-9 respectively.

Match Facts
  • Madi Parson led the team with 17 kills in the match, hitting .269 while adding nine digs and one service ace. Kate Tidman and Gracie Urbatsch also posted double-digit kills, finishing with 10 apiece as Tidman managed to record her fifth double-double of the season. Elli Teeple helped lead the offense, registering 38 assists and two service aces while chipping in five digs. 
  • Neither team was on fire in the first set but Coe managed to hit .132 while recording 12 kills in the frame. Lake Forest hit just .083 and had five errors in the opening set. 
  • Coe improved vastly in the second, hitting .275 while totaling 17 kills. Despite the improvement, Lake Forest managed to take a 19-13 lead but Coe scored 12 of the final 14 points of the match to flip the switch and take a 2-0 lead. 
  • It was the Kohawks who jumped out to an early lead in the final set, grabbing a 15-10 advantage but the Foresters fought back and cut the deficit to two points at 24-22. The final kill of the match came from Urbatsch who dispatched the clinching point off an assist from Teeple.

  • Parson and Tidman again led the attack for Coe, posting 12 kills each while Parson added 15 digs. Majda Suljic chipped in defensively with a team-high 22 digs in the match as the team posted three blocks overall. Urbatsch continued her solid play in the second match, adding nine kills while attacking at a .333 clip. 
  • The Kohawks and Vikings battled back-and-forth in the opener as the teams were tied at 12. Coe then ripped off a 13-2 stretch which included three kills from Urbatsch and two from Grace Lueken
  • Augustana responded well in the second set, racing out to a 15-4. Coe responded well, pulling within four points as it clawed back to 16-12. The Vikings continued to lead at 20-17 but the Kohawks comeback continued as they ripped off five straight points to take a 22-20 advantage. Coe completed the comeback after a single point for Augustana, using three consecutive points to take a 2-0 advantage. 
  • Coe led for a majority of the final set, holding a lead at 15-12 after back-to-back points on Viking errors. The Kohawks then stretched the lead to 19-14 with three-straight kills from Lueken, Tidman and Parson. Augustana then scored back-to-back points, making it 19-16 but Coe earned six of the final eight points to clinch the match. 
Up next: Coe will be back in action on Tuesday, September 21 when it hosts Loras College in an American Rivers Conference clash at 7:30 p.m.
