INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team suffered an 89-53 defeat to league-leading Simpson College on Saturday afternoon. The Storm jumped in front early in the contest, outscoring the Kohawks 30-12 in the first ten minutes. Coe battled back in the second quarter, getting outscored by just six in the period but the hosts strong first-half proved too much for Coe to handle.
Elle Walker was the lone Kohawk to reach double-figures, finishing with a team-high 13 points as the freshman was 5-of-9 from the floor. The loss drops Coe to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in the American Rivers Conference while Simpson improves to 15-1 and 7-0 in the league.

- The Kohawks scored the first points of the game as Molly Buck connected from 3 just under two minutes into the contest. Simpson answered back after missing its first three shots with six of the next eight points, quickly retaking the lead with seven minutes left in the quarter. The Storm continued to click offensively for the remainder of the period, ending with a 24-6 spurt to take control with a 30-12 lead.
- The lead grew in the second quarter as the Storm stayed hot, stretching their lead to 28 points with 3:25 left in the half. Coe continued to battle down the stretch of the first half, trading blows with Simpson until a 3 from Walker made it a 23-point game with 30 seconds left. The hosts ended the half with a bucket of their own, getting a layup from Jenna Taylor who sent the Storm into the half with a 56-31 lead.
- Simpson steadily increased their lead in the opening moments of the third quarter, getting the lead over 30 after a 3 from Taylor with 6:02 left in the frame. The offenses then both went cold but Coe got a pair of 3s from Alyse Southard and Buck inside the final 2-plus minutes of the quarter to cut the deficit to 76-41 after three quarters. Simpson remained in form on offense in the fourth quarter, managing its offensive possessions en route to the victory.
