CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team suffered a 60-53 defeat to Luther College at Kohawk Arena on Wednesday Evening. The Kohawks jumped out to an early lead in the first half thanks to 11 early points from
Molly Buck but the Norse stormed back in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback victory. Luther, which trailed 43-33 heading into the final period, shot 40 percent from the floor in the quarter to secure the win. The result drops Coe to 6-13 on the season and 3-7 in the A-R-C while Luther improves to 6-9 overall and 4-3 in the league.
Four Kohawks reached double-figures in the game with
Ellie Wisner, Katie Wilhelmi, Kaalyn Petersen and
Molly Buck all achieved the feat. Wisner led the team with 15 points, going 3-of-7 from downtown while adding four rebounds and two steals. Wilhelmi, Petersen and Buck each finished with 11 points in the game while Petersen and Wilhelmi pulled down eight and seven boards apiece. Buck, who was 3-of-5 from downtown, had a career-high three blocks in her 32 minutes of action.

- Coe opened the game with three-straight 3-pointers while holding Luther to an 0-of-4 from the floor. The hosts extended the lead to double-digits following a timeout from Luther as Buck drove the lane for a layup to make it 11-0 with 5:22 left in the first. Luther broke its scoreless stretch at the five-minute mark of the quarter, getting five-straight points from Kristen Elliott to cut the deficit to six points. The Kohawks ended the period on top, using a 6-2 run over the final 3:40 of the period as Coe took a 17-7 advantage into the second quarter.
- Buck knocked down another triple in the opening seconds of the second period, extending Coe's lead to 13 points with 9:12 left in the half. The game went scoreless over the next three minutes until Wilhelmi knocked down a pair of free throws to push the lead to 22-7. Luther dominated the game during the next 4:49, ripping off a 10-0 spurt to slice the deficit to just five points with 1:20 left in the half. Buck put an end to the Norse run just before the end of the second quarter, hitting another 3 to increase her first-half total to 11 while giving Coe a 25-17 lead.
- The Luther run continued after the break, outscoring Coe 9-5 in the opening two minutes to get back within four. The Kohawks answered the call over the next few moments, getting a 7-4 run which included five points from Wisner as the freshman helped restore a seven-point lead for Coe. The hosts pushed the lead back to double-digits just as time expired in the quarter as Wilhelmi converted a layup to make it 43-33 after 30 minutes.
- The Norse dominated the first half of the final frame, ripping off a 12-3 spurt to draw within one point of Coe's lead. Wisner again came up clutch for Coe, making a layup to put it back up 48-45 with 4:50 to play. The teams went back-and-forth during the waning moments of the game but Luther scored the final six points of the contest to complete the come-from-behind victory.
Up next: Coe is back in Kohawk Arena on Saturday afternoon for a conference clash against Central College at 2 PM.
